Big things happening on the farm today! I had the great privilege of being mentored by my neighbor to use his large tractor for the seed drill! We are planting fescue, orchard, white clover, and rye grass for our cool season mix this year 🌾 Like any good farmer, I drilled until the sun went down and we will be back at it tomorrow!

Farming is full of joy, but also full of hard responsibilities. This past week, I faced one of the most difficult moments I’ve ever had on the farm. A dog entered our property and began killing our chickens. As a farmer, I am responsible for the safety and wellbeing of every animal in my care, and I had to make a heartbreaking decision to protect them.

I want to be clear: I love animals. My farm is built on that love. This situation was not taken lightly—it was tragic and deeply upsetting for me as well.

I know many of you are hurting or angry hearing about this, and I understand. Please also understand the reality of farm life: chickens, horses, and livestock depend on us to keep them safe, just as our pets depend on us at home. Even the sweetest dogs can cause serious harm if not properly contained, which is why keeping pets secured is so important.

I share this not to cause further upset, but to be transparent. I will continue to care for all the animals on this farm with compassion and responsibility. Thank you to those who have shown understanding, and to fellow farmers who know the difficult choices we sometimes face.

The past two days have been absolutely wonderful here in the valley! 🌞 We’ve been blessed with perfect riding weather, and it’s been busy in the best way — from trail riders soaking up the views, to haul-in riders bringing their own horses, and even a special visit from a dear friend from another trail barn. 🐴✨

We’re so grateful for every rider who shares the trails with us — new faces, familiar ones, and friends from near and far. The more the merrier out here on horseback! 💚

The past two days have been absolutely wonderful here in the valley! 🌞 We’ve been blessed with perfect riding weather, and it’s been busy in the best way — from trail riders soaking up the views, to haul-in riders bringing their own horses, and even a special visit from a dear friend from another trail barn. 🐴✨

We’re so grateful for every rider who shares the trails with us — new faces, familiar ones, and friends from near and far. The more the merrier out here on horseback! 💚

The last crop is being cut from the valley today! 🌾 Next up: soil testing, fertilizing, and seeding as we begin the transition to lush pasture for our horses. 🐴

Thanks to a grant through our local USDA office, we’re able to convert row crop land into healthy pasture—a big win for the land and our watershed. With 2,500 feet of creek along our east pasture and a natural spring to the west, protecting clean water here at Spirit Valley is a top priority. 💧🌱

Sam made me some beautiful forever flowers to add to my client refreshment area! 🥰 She worked extra hard today on learning to keep Willie in his gait and got a special treat at the end by cantering him up the hill! Great job, Sam!
